Port Industries

The primary Port industries have been traditional fish and wood processing industries.  However, recent tenants have brought new light industries including biomedical and marijuana production.

The Port of Willapa Harbor and the community welcome recreational marijuana businesses.

Several tenants rely on the use of byproducts from these industries creating a succession of local resource processing.

Timber

The land area within the Port district is primarily timber lands. The Weyerhaeuser saw mill in Raymond produces kiln dried dimensional lumber used for building construction. The Port recognizes the need to provide industrial land to accommodate future expansion needs of current tenants as well as to serve new businesses.

Commercial fishing

The commercial fishing and aquaculture (oysters and clams) industries have become a mainstay of the local economy.  The Port facilities provide the local commercial fishing and oyster fleet with moorage facilities and space in which to operate. The Port is also developing a locally managed maintenance dredging program.

Manufacturing

The local manufacturing industry (with the exception of the two local saw mills) is comprised of primarily very small businesses with a link to either wood or seafood processing. The Port can provide facilities and developable industrial land.

Tourism

The ocean, bay, rivers and hills offer a variety of outdoor recreation activities.  The traditional hunting and fishing opportunities continue to attract many, both locals and visitors.  In addition the Willapa Bay has been recognized for its ecotourism opportunities with bird watching, kayaking and water trails, hiking and mountain biking.

Stan Hatfield Energy Innovation District

This exciting new project will design an energy recapture system to retain and circulate heat energy from production such as rotary dryers, kilns, and boilers. My circulating the energy as a liquid based system, the heat is retained and available for industries that need hot/warm temperatures.
